Meet Ms. Thompson
Here's me reading to a class of second graders at Morgan Elementary School for Read Across America.
My name is Ms. Thompson, and I am a Middle School Education Major at Murray State University! I am a junior and will be graduating with my Bachelors degree in Spring of 2027. My content area is in English Language Arts. I've always loved all things reading and writing!
I also live in Murray, KY, where I moved for college, but my hometown is Paducah, KY, and I suspect I'll be going back once I've graduated.
I graduated from McCracken County High School in the spring of 2023, and began my education journey at my local community college, West Kentucky Community & Technical College, where I graduated with my Associate's degree in Spring of 2025.
Then, I became a Murray State Racer!
A couple fun facts about me...
I love to travel. Here's me in Hawaii!
I used to be on my high school's dance team.
I love going to concerts. Here's when I went to see Twenty One Pilots!
I love my family! Here's my dad, my brother, and my grandma.
I read all the time.
I'm always listening to music.
...and I love iced coffee.
So, why teach?
I've known I wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a little kid. I used to prop up my stuffed animals and teach to them on my whiteboard with my Expo markers. I've always loved going to school. I loved reading and writing, and still do. I've had teachers that have absolutely changed my life, and I just want to help kids love school as much I did. I've also had my fair share of bad teachers, and I believe kids deserve better than that. They deserve a teacher who cares about them the same way they would care about their own children.
So far, I've had practicum placements at Murray Middle School, Calloway County Middle School, and Paducah Middle School. At each of these placements, I've made connections with students that I never thought I'd make. I loved coming into the classroom and hearing all about their weekends, their sports games, their bad days, and what they're going to eat for dinner later. I would see many of my students outside of the classroom at my place of work, and it warmed my heart when they recognized me and waved and told their parents about me.
As a future educator, I want to make sure there is space in my classroom for EVERY child. There were moments growing up where I felt like I didn't belong, and I know many kids today still go through this struggle. I want to ensure my students know that they will always have a place in my classroom.
